Starting Out A Journey

 Hello Reader,

As I start this new blogging journey, I am excited to tell you about myself, and I thought I would build a post to get started and share a little about my life with you. I am Savanah Summerfield, a 25-year-old Junior at the University of Evansville, Indiana, I am a History and Archeology major there, and my area of interest is in female spies. History has always been my favorite topic to talk about, and after years of not knowing what I wanted to do in life, I have started working towards a life of nerdy history stuff. I hope to someday work in a museum (the Smithsonian would be great) and author a few books about Female Spies and World War Two. I want to get my master's and Ph.D. in history, but we will see where that goes. Along with being a history nerd, I have many hobbies that keep me busy such as: Reading, Knitting, Baking, Card Games, Board Games, and the list goes on. I hope to be able to share a little about each topic as we journey together, and I promise this blog will not be all history-related. I have a life outside of my studies (though many would disagree with me on that, including my google search history). As I close out this first post, I want to say thank you to anyone who is reading this, and I hope you will stick around for my future post and that you don't find them too boring.

Have a beautiful day,
Savanah

Top Ten Classic Books I Recommend

Today we are stepping away from history for a minute, because I want to talk about some of my favorite classics. I have always had a special spot in my heart for classic reads ever since I can remember, I loved to curl up with a classic on the front porch and read the summer afternoon away. So I thought I would recommend my top ten classics to read in no particular order.   1. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen  This novel is by far my favorite Jane Austen work, so much so that I name my late cat after the main character Fanny Price. This novel is about an impoverished girl who goes to live with her wealthy family and is treated horribly. During this time, Fanny starts to have feelings for one of her cousins, who has treated her well despite the other family members’ treatment of her. I love this book simply because of the romance between the two cousins. This book also tackles some of the social problems of this time very critically which I find quite brave of Austen. I hig...

June Reading Wrap Up

Since traveling to Europe in June, I could not read as much as I would have liked; but I still completed some great books that I am excited to share with you. I will give a brief description, my rating, and my thoughts about the books I read.  If you want updates on what I am reading, follow me on Goodreads, where I try to keep my shelved books and current reads up to date.  https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/122472933-savanah For June, I was able to read seven books (not too bad, if I say so myself).   The First Book I completed was Reflection by Elizabeth Lim.    This book is one of the Disney twisted retellings that came out in the last few years. I was a little skeptical about this book because I am such a huge Disney fan; however, Lim did not disappoint. In this work, we follow Mulan as she must go to the Underworld to save General Shang's life; she faces many struggles and has help from a few new sidekicks. I highly recommend reading t...

Books I Read for my First Semester at Four Year University.

After transferring from a community college, I found that my reading schedule increased dramatically. In today’s post, I thought I would share the books I read in my first semester at a four-year university. Although the amount of reading I had to do in school increased, the content I was reading became much more helpful. While in community college, the required books were very general and tended not to provide a variety of opinions in most cases. However, most books were supplemented with other articles and self-guided research. I will not show all of the reading material I read through because this would be a very long post, and some classes just gave me bits and pieces of different works. So here are the books I bought and studied in my sophomore-level college class at four-year. In my first semester, I took six classes for 16-credit hours. I took: ·          Health 110 ·          Fir...
