Must Have School Supplies for College

In my first year of college, I found myself a little lost in what to buy for college; so many people told me to buy all these materials, and I realized I was not going to need them. So here are the basic supplies you need to buy before starting classes.

Pencils

This might sound like I am an eighty-year-old person. But pencils are essential for me. I started taking notes on my computer, then pens, and then I had to switch to pencils, and I prefer taking tests and generally writing with pencils. As a history/archeology major, I take a lot of handwritten notes, and my hands can start to hurt very fast. However, my mom got me thicker pencils in elementary school, and I loved using them. So I decided to find these pencils and use them once again. These pencils are typically for children learning to write but help save my hand. Tot pencils are my favorite pencils; they take a lot to break, so I don’t have to worry about them in my backpack.

Sticky Notebook

This is a bit of an extravagance, but my sticky notebook is one of my favorite school supplies as I can fold it up and take it to class with me to write important reminders, notes, or mark a page in a book that we are working on in class. I got this when I started four year, and I would not live without it. I have three just in my house because I love them so much. They keep everything together and organized, and for the person that likes sticky notes and uses them quite often, this will be the perfect school supply for you.

Pens

This kind of sounds like a no-brainer, but finding a good pin that you enjoy writing with and like the ink is crucial to a successful school year. I like Pilot pens because their ink is fast drying, I don't have to worry about smudging the ink as much since I am left-handed, and I also don't have to worry about the ball of the pen clogging because their ink is very nice. These pins are a little bit more expensive, but they are worth the price. They last a long time

Sticky Tabs

In addition to the sticky notebook, I like to get sticky tabs for whenever I am reading a bunch of books that I want to mark up. To save a little bit of money I get these sticky tabs to keep quotes and things that I want to use in essays and just parts of a book that I enjoy. I like to get a bundle because it's typically cheaper this is a product I use pretty often

Colored Pens

I like using colored pens in addition to highlighters for when I'm marking up books. It makes it a little more eye-catching, and I can use different color pens for annotations. I also tend to use colored pins when annotating or highlighting various passages in a book just because it is a lot simpler, and usually, the colored pins do not leak through, like highlighters tend to do. I like using the Papermate colored pens the only drawback to them is they dry out fast even with the cap on, but the quality of the color and the pin itself is good.

Three Ring Binder

A 3-ring binder is what I put all of my notes in that I'm going to take her I will be taking. I organized my day’s classes by folder, which I took to every class for that day last semester. I had three types on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so I had a binder for Monday, Wednesday Friday, and then I had two classes on Tuesday and Thursday, so I had a binder that I would take to those classes. This helps reduce the number of notebooks you have to carry around with you to style and allows you a cheaper option than buying notebooks. I highly suggest that you buy a suitable quality binder for this and make it something that fits your personality because you're going to have to pack this every single day. You might as well like it. I typically don't buy a lot of frivolous or cutesy school supplies, but I make a splurge, and we'll spend an extra $5 to get a binder that I like is functional.

Paper and Binder Clips

I prefer using paper and binder clips instead of staples in most projects simply because many professors prefer them. And I like them for keeping things organized because once I staple something, I'm just going to have to rip off a page, so I typically use paper and binder clips to gather my loose pages and bring them to class. I also like buying an assortment pack because you get a variety of sizes, and you don't have to spend more money to find different size clips.

Binder Paper

I use binder paper is for taking notes on your binder typically, these are cheap, around $0.99, and you can get quite a bit of paper to take notes on without spending a fortune on notebook paper.

Colored Folders

Color folders are something that I do to keep my classes separate. I have a folder for every class in a different color. This keeps me organized, and once I get into the course, I can flip immediately to my notes for that day's class. I have used the paper folders that are about $0.15 at Walmart. However, I find these folders can leak color onto your paper, which drives me nuts, so I highly recommend buying the plastic pocket folders. They hold up much better and don't spread paint onto your paper.

Functional Backpack

The most essential supply to buy is a functional backpack. I know this sounds like a no-brainer but don't just go to an ordinary shop and buy a cute bag. If you think it fits your personality, go into a store thinking about functionality, look at pockets, and think about the material's sturdiness. If you don't, you will spend way more money on a backpack every year than if you start out buying a good quality backpack that will last you through your four years. I went to Sam's and got mine because they had a good-quality backpack, and I ended up spending a fair amount on it, but you can go online and find a backpack that suits your needs. Just make sure to look at the reviews and see if it is something that will hold up.

Highlighters

I like to get an assortment of highlighters, and I typically share these with some of my friends because I tend to use colored pens more than highlighters, but I do like to keep highlighters on me for occasions where I am highlighting large sections of a book or an article, and I tend to use highlighters more on printed article pieces that I'm not going to keep for the foreseeable future

I hope this helps you in your buying process for school.

Have a great day,

Savanah

Top Ten Classic Books I Recommend

Today we are stepping away from history for a minute, because I want to talk about some of my favorite classics. I have always had a special spot in my heart for classic reads ever since I can remember, I loved to curl up with a classic on the front porch and read the summer afternoon away. So I thought I would recommend my top ten classics to read in no particular order.   1. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen  This novel is by far my favorite Jane Austen work, so much so that I name my late cat after the main character Fanny Price. This novel is about an impoverished girl who goes to live with her wealthy family and is treated horribly. During this time, Fanny starts to have feelings for one of her cousins, who has treated her well despite the other family members’ treatment of her. I love this book simply because of the romance between the two cousins. This book also tackles some of the social problems of this time very critically which I find quite brave of Austen. I hig...

June Reading Wrap Up

Since traveling to Europe in June, I could not read as much as I would have liked; but I still completed some great books that I am excited to share with you. I will give a brief description, my rating, and my thoughts about the books I read.  If you want updates on what I am reading, follow me on Goodreads, where I try to keep my shelved books and current reads up to date.  https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/122472933-savanah For June, I was able to read seven books (not too bad, if I say so myself).   The First Book I completed was Reflection by Elizabeth Lim.    This book is one of the Disney twisted retellings that came out in the last few years. I was a little skeptical about this book because I am such a huge Disney fan; however, Lim did not disappoint. In this work, we follow Mulan as she must go to the Underworld to save General Shang's life; she faces many struggles and has help from a few new sidekicks. I highly recommend reading t...

Books I Read for my First Semester at Four Year University.

After transferring from a community college, I found that my reading schedule increased dramatically. In today’s post, I thought I would share the books I read in my first semester at a four-year university. Although the amount of reading I had to do in school increased, the content I was reading became much more helpful. While in community college, the required books were very general and tended not to provide a variety of opinions in most cases. However, most books were supplemented with other articles and self-guided research. I will not show all of the reading material I read through because this would be a very long post, and some classes just gave me bits and pieces of different works. So here are the books I bought and studied in my sophomore-level college class at four-year. In my first semester, I took six classes for 16-credit hours. I took: ·          Health 110 ·          Fir...
