July TBR

During the summer months, I like to pick a monthly To Read List as I have more time to read the books I want to without juggling college material. Also, this gives me a little more structure to what I read and gives me some motivation to keep up and improve my reading speed and comprehension. During this time, I like to have several books with a designated amount to read to keep my interest in all of my reading time and to be able to focus on several different ideas during a day’s reading. I also try to read about a hundred pages each day to give myself a bit of a break since it is summer. I also try to have a variety of history and fiction books to keep it fun. So with that, below is a list of books I want to complete in July.

Egyptian Book of the Dead

This book is chunky. So, I have divided this book into 23 sections to read during the month. I took an Egyptian Archeology class and loved it, so I had to get it when I saw this book. I am so excited about this one, and I hope to finish in July.

Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin

My sister is making me read this book, she read it last year and has been on my case about reading it, and I told her I would try it during the summer. Although I am being forced to read this, I am ready to dive into it if it is as good as my sister says it is.

Disobeying Hitler by Randall Hansen

I know nothing about this book; the cover made me get it.

Son Of Neptune by Rick Riordan

I am a little behind on this series. I never read these books until I was an adult, and I love them!

Train to Nowhere by Anita Leslie

All I know is this book is about women in World War Two.

Code name Madeleine by Arthur J. Magida

This book is about a World War Two spy. Other than that no clue.

A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling. The first sentence got me hooked on this book. Also, I am always behind the trend, so I am finally excited to be reading this.

Overall I am so excited for July's reading month. Please share your most excited read for July.

Have a great day!

Top Ten Classic Books I Recommend

Today we are stepping away from history for a minute, because I want to talk about some of my favorite classics. I have always had a special spot in my heart for classic reads ever since I can remember, I loved to curl up with a classic on the front porch and read the summer afternoon away. So I thought I would recommend my top ten classics to read in no particular order.   1. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen  This novel is by far my favorite Jane Austen work, so much so that I name my late cat after the main character Fanny Price. This novel is about an impoverished girl who goes to live with her wealthy family and is treated horribly. During this time, Fanny starts to have feelings for one of her cousins, who has treated her well despite the other family members’ treatment of her. I love this book simply because of the romance between the two cousins. This book also tackles some of the social problems of this time very critically which I find quite brave of Austen. I hig...

June Reading Wrap Up

Since traveling to Europe in June, I could not read as much as I would have liked; but I still completed some great books that I am excited to share with you. I will give a brief description, my rating, and my thoughts about the books I read.  If you want updates on what I am reading, follow me on Goodreads, where I try to keep my shelved books and current reads up to date.  https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/122472933-savanah For June, I was able to read seven books (not too bad, if I say so myself).   The First Book I completed was Reflection by Elizabeth Lim.    This book is one of the Disney twisted retellings that came out in the last few years. I was a little skeptical about this book because I am such a huge Disney fan; however, Lim did not disappoint. In this work, we follow Mulan as she must go to the Underworld to save General Shang's life; she faces many struggles and has help from a few new sidekicks. I highly recommend reading t...

5 Non-Romance Books

I love to read a cute romance book, but every once in a while, I crave a book that a character does not find their true love or love is not even mentioned in the book. So to celebrate the singles in the world such as myself. Here are my top five non-romance books.   Fawkes by Nadine Brandes   Fawkes is a historical fiction book with a hint of fantasy that follows Guy Fawkes’s son (Thomas) as he tries to find his father to receive the most significant honor the Igniters have their mask. Their mask are essential as whatever color mask is given to the child of an Igniter is the color they can control (so if you have a blue mask, you can control any blue object like water, grey would control things like stone, and so on). However, the people of this time are dealing with a severe plague called the Stone Plague which Thomas has in his eye. Thomas must find his father to get his mask and hopefully pardon himself from the plague he has contracted. But when Thomas meets...
