Amazon Prime Day’s Book Haul

With Amazon’s Prime Day, I took advantage of some great deals to collect some books I have been wanting, but I am very proud of myself because I only bought four books. Three of these books are part of a series, and one I found on Goodreads and wanted to check it out. So below are the books I purchased.

Pardonable Lies (A Maisie Dobbs Novel) by Jacqueline Winspear

This is the third Maisie Dobbs Novel by Winspear. In this book, Maisie must help a girl convicted of murder find the graves of two World War I veterans. Readers will discover who the liars are and how War can place seeds of deceit. This is a mystery, so I don’t want to read too much into this.

Messenger of Truth (A Maisie Dobbs Novel) by Jacqueline Winspear

This is the fourth book in the Maisie Dobbs series; in this book, a World War I veteran is found dead, and Maisie must find out who the real killer is. Again, this is a mystery, so that’s all I know.

An Incomplete Revenge (A Maisie Dobbs Novel) by Jacqueline Winspear

This is the fifth book in the Maisie Dobbs series, and fires are breaking out around the village of Heronsdene Maisie must find who is behind these fires. Last mystery in this book haul!

A Peoples History of the United States by Howard Zinn

This is a historical analysis of America from the perspective of the everyday men and women who served outside the political arena. This book covers the time frame of the first European explorers to the Presidential terms of Clinton. Seeing America through the lenses of the working class and those who were discriminated against will provide a unique perspective.

I think I did pretty well in this haul; I can continue the Maisie Dobbs series and read new to me historian’s book.

Tell me what books have graced your shelves because of Amazon Prime Days.

Have a great day,

Savanah

Top Ten Classic Books I Recommend

Today we are stepping away from history for a minute, because I want to talk about some of my favorite classics. I have always had a special spot in my heart for classic reads ever since I can remember, I loved to curl up with a classic on the front porch and read the summer afternoon away. So I thought I would recommend my top ten classics to read in no particular order.   1. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen  This novel is by far my favorite Jane Austen work, so much so that I name my late cat after the main character Fanny Price. This novel is about an impoverished girl who goes to live with her wealthy family and is treated horribly. During this time, Fanny starts to have feelings for one of her cousins, who has treated her well despite the other family members’ treatment of her. I love this book simply because of the romance between the two cousins. This book also tackles some of the social problems of this time very critically which I find quite brave of Austen. I hig...

June Reading Wrap Up

Since traveling to Europe in June, I could not read as much as I would have liked; but I still completed some great books that I am excited to share with you. I will give a brief description, my rating, and my thoughts about the books I read.  If you want updates on what I am reading, follow me on Goodreads, where I try to keep my shelved books and current reads up to date.  https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/122472933-savanah For June, I was able to read seven books (not too bad, if I say so myself).   The First Book I completed was Reflection by Elizabeth Lim.    This book is one of the Disney twisted retellings that came out in the last few years. I was a little skeptical about this book because I am such a huge Disney fan; however, Lim did not disappoint. In this work, we follow Mulan as she must go to the Underworld to save General Shang's life; she faces many struggles and has help from a few new sidekicks. I highly recommend reading t...

Books I Read for my First Semester at Four Year University.

After transferring from a community college, I found that my reading schedule increased dramatically. In today’s post, I thought I would share the books I read in my first semester at a four-year university. Although the amount of reading I had to do in school increased, the content I was reading became much more helpful. While in community college, the required books were very general and tended not to provide a variety of opinions in most cases. However, most books were supplemented with other articles and self-guided research. I will not show all of the reading material I read through because this would be a very long post, and some classes just gave me bits and pieces of different works. So here are the books I bought and studied in my sophomore-level college class at four-year. In my first semester, I took six classes for 16-credit hours. I took: ·          Health 110 ·          Fir...
