My Trip to Scotland

For the first time in my life, I was able to travel outside of the United States and visit another country. For the next few weeks, I will be sharing my adventures while traveling to Scotland, England, and Ireland. During this trip, I have learned much and had a great deal of fun. I can't wait to share this experience with you.

Fortunately, I was able to travel with my mother and my Aunt, who made this trip even better, so in a few pictures, you will be able to see them in case you are wondering who those people are with me.

Our first stop Scotland!

Since our trip was cut short, we only had two and a half days in Scotland because of a Canceled flight, but I think I could have stayed there for all of the trips. It was beautiful. Although I did not think I was going to be able to spend much time in Scotland, I was able to experience the beautiful landscape and people of this country. I learned quite a bit about this area while I was there, such as you are constantly climbing uphill even if you are traveling downhill (which I am not sure how this is possible, but my legs sure did feel it), all jesting and hills aside Scotland is an incredible place to see. We stayed in Edinburgh, which means we could explore one of Scotland's most extraordinary castles, which just happens to be named the Edinburgh Castle (which makes it easy to remember).

This place is incredible, and I have come to the conclusion that if I am ever in need of a stronghold to live in, this is the optimum place, equipped with a beautiful view and an awesome dungeon (I mean, what more does someone need). Also, I am convinced that anyone who wishes to seize this castle would get tired before reaching it and must take long breaks, which would give time to reinforce troops and simply wear the poor fellows out. Let’s just say this was a bit of a climb to get to.

On the first full day, we took a trip to the famous Loch Ness, home of Nessie and the Highlands (my favorite part of the trip).  Of course, we saw Nessie though she did not talk much!

The Lochs we saw while we were in Scotland were beautiful, but Loch Ness is something amazing, and I see why Nessie would choose it as her home. While at Loch Ness, we had a Scottish tea which was great. As we drank our tea and ate our victoria sponge (my new favorite cake), we looked out upon the Loch (talk about paradise).

Driving through the Highlands had the best views of the trip. I was constantly in awe of the hills and mountains across the landscape.

We went to the National Museum of Scotland and Explored Edinburgh on the second day.

We saw Dolly, the Sheep!

Mary Queen of Scots Tomb

Walking through Edinburgh there were many incredible buildings which I had no clue as to what they were, but I sure enjoyed looking at them.

Even though our trip didn't quite go to plan and we were not able visit everything we hope to, we had a great time exploring Scotland, and hey, this means I will have to go back and finish exploring!

Have a great day!

Top Ten Classic Books I Recommend

Today we are stepping away from history for a minute, because I want to talk about some of my favorite classics. I have always had a special spot in my heart for classic reads ever since I can remember, I loved to curl up with a classic on the front porch and read the summer afternoon away. So I thought I would recommend my top ten classics to read in no particular order.   1. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen  This novel is by far my favorite Jane Austen work, so much so that I name my late cat after the main character Fanny Price. This novel is about an impoverished girl who goes to live with her wealthy family and is treated horribly. During this time, Fanny starts to have feelings for one of her cousins, who has treated her well despite the other family members’ treatment of her. I love this book simply because of the romance between the two cousins. This book also tackles some of the social problems of this time very critically which I find quite brave of Austen. I hig...

June Reading Wrap Up

Since traveling to Europe in June, I could not read as much as I would have liked; but I still completed some great books that I am excited to share with you. I will give a brief description, my rating, and my thoughts about the books I read.  If you want updates on what I am reading, follow me on Goodreads, where I try to keep my shelved books and current reads up to date.  https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/122472933-savanah For June, I was able to read seven books (not too bad, if I say so myself).   The First Book I completed was Reflection by Elizabeth Lim.    This book is one of the Disney twisted retellings that came out in the last few years. I was a little skeptical about this book because I am such a huge Disney fan; however, Lim did not disappoint. In this work, we follow Mulan as she must go to the Underworld to save General Shang's life; she faces many struggles and has help from a few new sidekicks. I highly recommend reading t...

Books I Read for my First Semester at Four Year University.

After transferring from a community college, I found that my reading schedule increased dramatically. In today’s post, I thought I would share the books I read in my first semester at a four-year university. Although the amount of reading I had to do in school increased, the content I was reading became much more helpful. While in community college, the required books were very general and tended not to provide a variety of opinions in most cases. However, most books were supplemented with other articles and self-guided research. I will not show all of the reading material I read through because this would be a very long post, and some classes just gave me bits and pieces of different works. So here are the books I bought and studied in my sophomore-level college class at four-year. In my first semester, I took six classes for 16-credit hours. I took: ·          Health 110 ·          Fir...
